Care Guide for Your Linen Scarf

All scarves in my shop are handmade using pre-washed linen to ensure a comfortable feel and characteristic drape. While pre-softened, the fabric retains the natural, authentic texture that linen is loved for. To ensure your scarf lasts for years, follow these care tips:

Washing

  • Hand washing is highly recommended.
  • If using machine wash use a gentle cycle (up to 40°C) and place the scarf in a  washing bag.
  • Wash whites, darks, and colors separately.
  • Use a small amount of mild, pH-neutral detergent.
  • Never use bleach.
  • Rinse the scarf thoroughly to prevent detergent residue, which can cause stiffness.

Drying

  • Lay the scarf flat on a towel or hang it in the shade. Avoid direct sunlight and heaters to prevent over-drying.
  • For a smooth look, lay it flat. For a more bohemian, crinkled look, twist the damp scarf and let it dry that way.

Restoring Softness

If your scarf feels stiff after washing (often due to hard water or over-drying), try these steps:

  • While the scarf is still slightly damp, gently knead or massage the fabric with your hands to break down the stiffness.
  • Use steam iron on a warm setting while the scarf is slightly damp to relax fibers.
